Just for the fun of it, I created a Mario and a Luigi papier-mâché piñata. I thought this would be a great opportunity to share with you how character head piñatas can be a lot of fun at any celebration. Besides the obvious fun (piñata holds goodies), the piñatas can make a picture perfect momentum. You can take a picture of the group, or of each guest with the piñata; solo or with birthday boy/girl. Try this pose for Funny pictures: Hang piñata at head level, have guest stand behind the piñata. Piñata will appear to be the head on the guests’ body. Kids love it!

Hi - I'm having a Mario Kart Party for my son's 4th Bday and I am interested in ordering the mario and luigi pinatas or possibly hearing some ideas from you on what kind of pinatas would be godd for this theme. Do you make decorations? I'm looking for somethings that can go with the mario kart theme for a back yard party.

Not sure if you looked though the "Yoshi Party" page, but there you can see some cute ideas that can also coordinate to a Mario Kart theme. :o)

I made this for my son's 6th birthday. It's a huge hit and his party isn't for 5 more days. Everyone that has seen it, loves it! I loved doing the paper mache, it was so relaxing. Thanks for sharing such detailed instructions!

Love everything on this site... so amazing... Was curious my 5 year isn't to fond on hitting a pinata I would like to make this one and make it a pull string... What do you think??? I have never made a pinata... thanks for all your wonderful ideas..

I suppose it is all what your kids are use to. My kids on the other hand love hitting the pinata at their parties and getting the goodies to rain down for all their friends to collect. Hitting a pinata is part and partial of the party Fun. Pull string pinatas have never been something that I create too much. But if this is what you intend to make then follow my instructions on how to create a papier-mache pinata. Except at the end you have to tape an assortment of strings to the bottom of the finished pinata. Then cut a small flap ( by cutting 3 sides of a small square). Then you can tie a string to the flap. Make sure to tape the flap closed, so that once you fill your pinata with goodies they don't fall through the flap. Keep all the string the same size ( you can trim them all at the end to be the same length).
Hope this helps. Oh, and I forgot to mention the most important thing....Have Fun with it!
:O)

Hi! First off... You are an amazing person! I am soo glad I stumbled onto this site... My son is having his first ever "real" bday party.. He requested Mario theme! I want this to be extremely special for him and i think you helped with this! So Thank You ever so much! My question is... Could you possible send me the material list for the Luigi and Bowser pinata? I think I can figure out what to do if I had size balloon list for ears, chin , head etc.. (I'm guessing it's the same process as Mario??!! I want to make them for the Pictures.. I appreciate the time you put into this website and from the bottom of my heart... Thank you :)

Very nice of you to say. :o)
I always am glad to hear when I was able to help another mommy in the world add some fun party details to their child's' birthday.
As far as the Bowser and Luigi material list / balloon sizes, I don't have an exact measurement. Since I have never have actually blogged about making those particular pinatas, I never really took note to exact measurements.
The best advice I can give you is to start with a punch balloon and make sure you have front and side images of your reference character's head. Fill your punch balloon up to be a bit smaller then the Mario Pinata punch balloon ( See papier-mache post). Then just make sure that you make the balloon sizes for the nose, chin and chin relevant to the size of the main balloon. It really helps having a reference image so that you can gauge the sizes visually.
Hope this helps. Good Luck with your papier-mach adventures. I would love to see pictures of your creations once your done. Hope you send in some pics for us to see.

I just wanted to say thank you. I live in South Africa and have been asked to make some pinatas for some friends and have been using crepe paper to decorate. Your guide has been incredible and so helpful. Thank you so much. I have now created spongebob and the child was over the moon. I am keeping you on my favourites bar!!!

WoW! South Africa... that just makes me smile to know that I was able to help out from half way across the world. Thanks for your great comment!
Please feel free to submit your "Cool Party Pinata pics" under the right side column "Cool Party Pics". I would love to see.
I use tissue paper 95% of the time. Both Crepe paper and tissue paper can work when it comes to decorating the outer pinata. Really depends on your preference. Sometimes tissue paper is available in many more variety of colors then crepe paper. But both work :o)
