Last week I posted about a very cool way to make an Easter basket at a very low cost to you. In that post I recommended that you add in some Easter eggs to complete your basket. Well the eggs that were added into the Shadow-Sonic Easter Basket were not just any Easter eggs. They were what I like to call “Fun-Fetti” eggs. These are great fun at any Friend or Family Easter get-together.
What you will need:
- Emptied eggs shells
- Egg dye
- Paper towels
- Confetti
- Chenille Fuzzy Chicks
- Variety colors of permanent markers
- White glue
- White tissue paper circles
Before you begin, you will have to first have the eggshells emptied. (See Demo)
Once you have your cleaned out and dried egg shells, you can begin coloring them. I just used some store bought Easter egg dye to color mine.
Since these eggs have been emptied out, the eggshell itself will float to the top. Use a pencil’s soft eraser side to lightly push the egg under and submerge it fully in the dye. Keep the egg in, until the color is to your liking.
Take a paper towel and cut it into strips. Fold up each strip in half, then in half again. Fit the folded piece of paper towel inside each of the egg carton spaces. The paper towels are especially needed because these eggs drip a lot of excess dye out from the hollowed area. Next remove the eggs from the dye using a pencil, this helps reduce the mess on your hands. Carefully pour out the excess dye from the inside hollowed area. Let dry, with the hole facing down toward the paper towel. Let all the eggs dry and then flip them over to allow the inside to dry as well.
Now the eggs are ready to be decorated. Just like with regular Easter eggs, the kids really enjoy getting involved decorating these fun-fetti eggs. Let their little minds get creative with fun egg designs. If they are stuck for ideas, you can suggest they make hearts, dots, circles, swirls, stars or anything for that matter. Supervision is always suggested when allowing the kids to use permanent markers. I like to instruct my kids to blow on their colorful creations several times so that they don’t smudge.
Once they are done decorating their egg you can begin the next part, which is filling the egg with confetti. For easy clean up, pour the confetti in a large bowel and sit the egg in the center of the bowel. Instruct your kids to fill the egg less then half way with confetti.
These chenille chicks are absolutely adorable! You can find them in other cute Easter colors too, like pink and even blue. Go ahead and take a chick and place it inside of the eggshell.
Take a moment and think about how you want to have fun with these fun-fetti Easter eggs. To play a game with these fun-fetti eggs, you can choose to only fill a few with a chick. Then you can award a fun little prize to anyone who finds a chick inside his or her egg. You can also choose to fill all the eggs with a chick. These little chicks are really cute enough that just finding one is fun enough, even without the prize.
Once the chick is tucked away inside, continue filling the eggshell with confetti.
Next, you will use white glue to go around the outside of the hole of the eggshell. Be careful not to use too much glue, you don’t want it to drip down the side of the egg. Next cut small circular pieces from white tissue paper. Try to keep them roughly the same size as the hole.
Place the tissue paper circle on top of the hole. Lightly pat the edges of the circle down around the glue. Smooth out all the edges so that they lay flat with the curve of the eggshell. Set the eggshell aside, let dry.
There you have it, a fun filled confetti way to help you celebrate Easter day. It doesn’t matter if your just spending Easter with family or having a large get together, everyone is sure to enjoy these fun-fetti Easter Eggs. Enjoy!
Two Ways to Play:
- Add in a little chick or other kind of trinket - Fill all eggs with confetti and only a few with a chick. Award prizes to whom ever finds the chick inside of their chosen egg.
- Add in only confetti - These are fun if your party guests are a little more rowdy. Let each guest choose an egg. These “Fun-fetti” eggs can really hold a lot of confetti, so party goers beware! You may find an egg being cracked above your head, and raining down confetti during the coarse of the party. Lots of Fun!
*Always play with Caution - Fun-Fetti Eggs are to be played with a sense of fun and good judgment.
