Easter is right around the corner and it can get expensive buying the newest and latest Easter products you see lined up on store shelves. I will show you a really cool way to save money and still have the coolest Easter baskets, customized just for your kid. Not to mention the brownie points you gain for Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. Yay! Go green.
Ok so this is what you’ll need:
- A basket
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Needle and thread
- A stuffed animal (please get required approval from your kids :o)
If you are like me, you probably already have most if not all of these things lying around the house. In fact I spent $0 when it came to making this cool Easter basket. However the smile on my son’s face was worth a whole lot more!
When choosing the basket you plan to use, be sure that the size of the chosen stuffed animal and basket are fitting. Tip: The stuffed animal’s arms should reach equally to opposite sides of the basket handle. The basket used was that of my son’s from a previous Easter. I just spray-painted it a flat black color to coordinate with the stuffed animal color.
This stuffed animal was one from my son’s collection. No worries though, I got full authorization from him before I began disassembling this Stuffed Sonic X Shadow Plush
. If you can’t get your kid to give up a stuffed animal from their own collection, try looking to consignment stores or yard sales. This is a cost effective way to find popular stuffed animal characters at a low price. Toss it in the washer when you get it home so it’s clean and ready to be transformed into a cool Easter basket.
You need two main pieces to make this character Easter basket, the body, and the legs. Cut the legs off right at the seams, where they meet with the body portion.
Depending on how floppy your stuffed animal is, you may need to add in stuffer-filling to the body portion. You want the stuffed animal to be relatively firm with stuffing so that the head doesn’t flop over. Use hot glue to close up the seam at the bottom of the stuffed animal’s body. Make sure there is plenty of glue to keep the seam closed tight, you don’t want stuffing to come falling out.
Next, you will use a needle and coordinating color thread to make a few stitches around the body, head and the arms. Stitch through the stuffed animal and the small openings of the wicker basket. Try to keep the stitches small and the thread hidden, for a nice clean look. Continue making stitches around the arms and elbows to keep them in place.
Now comes time to adhere the feet to the basket. You don’t need the legs of the stuffed animal, so you can just tuck them inside of the foot. Apply Hot glue to each foot, then press and hold them onto the basket. Be sure to place both feet equal to one another. You will need to use a good amount of glue to hold these feet securely on. Be careful not to burn yourself:0}
So there you have it. Pretty simple and pretty cool! You can make all different sorts of cool Easter baskets this way. Try using different stuffed animal characters. Simply pick your child’s favorite character, and they are sure to love it!
Add in some coordinating color Easter grass, throw in a few Easter eggs and you have yourself one super cool Easter basket!

That's such a great idea. I'll have to bookmark this for later.
